Meet your family law team

Swarbrick Law has been helping families navigate separation and divorce since 1997. Based in Almonte, we work with clients across Lanark County and West Ottawa.

We help you work through family law matters in a way that is effective, efficient and respectful. Together, we focus on practical solutions that reduce conflict and help your family move forward with clarity and confidence.

Our team guides you through each step with clear advice, practical support and compassion.

Elizabeth Swarbrick

BARRISTER, SOLICITOR + NOTARY PUBLIC

Elizabeth founded Swarbrick Law and has practised family law for more than 30 years. She was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1993 and to the Law Society of Ontario in 1995 after graduating from Dalhousie University School of Law. Elizabeth is a founding member of Collaborative Divorce Ottawa and a trainer with the Ontario Association of Collaborative Professionals. She has helped train collaborative family law professionals across Ontario and is a past president of the County of Lanark Law Association. Her work focuses on helping clients resolve family matters respectfully and without unnecessary conflict. When she’s not lawyering, Elizabeth enjoys chasing after her two daughters, kayaking, hiking and reading.

Emily Murray

BARRISTER, SOLICITOR + NOTARY PUBLIC

Emily earned her law degree from the University of Ottawa in 2016 and was called to the Law Society of Ontario in 2018. She joined Swarbrick Law in 2020. Emily takes the time to understand each client’s situation and priorities. She knows the legal process can feel overwhelming and works hard to make it clear, manageable and less stressful. Emily has represented clients in the Superior Court of Justice, Family Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. In her spare time, Emily enjoys running, reading and watching Jeopardy.

Teresa DuBois

BARRISTER, SOLICITOR + NOTARY PUBLIC

Teresa obtained her law degree from the University of Ottawa and has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2010. After 15 years in general practice, she chose to focus exclusively on family law. Although she has significant courtroom experience — including articling at the Superior Court of Justice and serving as a Small Claims Court judge — Teresa prefers approaches that help families reach resolution through negotiation, mediation or collaborative law whenever possible. She is a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and works on matters involving child protection, adoption and guardianship. Teresa is active in the community and serves as Treasurer of the County of Lanark Law Association. She can provide legal services in both English and French. Outside the office, Teresa enjoys reading, spending time in nature and keeping up with her two growing lads.

Karen Trepanier

LEGAL ASSISTANT/OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

Karen is often the first person you’ll meet when you contact Swarbrick Law. She holds a diploma in Legal Office Administration from St. Lawrence College and brings more than 30 years of experience in the legal field. Karen joined the firm in 2014 and helps keep the office running smoothly while supporting clients throughout the process. When not assisting clients and the team, Karen likes to spend time with friends and family, and enjoying the great outdoors.

John Murray

FINANCE MANAGER

John holds degrees in Economics and Finance from Saint Mary’s University. He joined the firm in 2000 and manages the financial operations that help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Outside of work, John enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and biking in the summer and skiing, snowshoeing and skating in the winter.
