about us

We have been offering family legal services since 1997. Our office is based in Almonte, Ontario and our clients come from across Lanark County and West Ottawa. Our mission is to provide an effective, efficient, and respectful resolution to our clients’ family legal challenges.

Elizabeth Swarbrick

BARRISTER, SOLICITOR + NOTARY PUBLIC

Elizabeth became a member of the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society in 1993 and the (Ontario) Law Society of Upper Canada in 1995 after graduating from Dalhousie University School of Law in 1992. She is currently licensed to practise in Ontario only. She is a member of the County of Lanark Law Association and is currently the Past President of the Association. She is a founding member of Collaborative Practice Ottawa and is a collaborative law trainer through the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation, now the Ontario Association of Collaborative Professionals. She has trained collaborative professionals throughout Ontario. When not lawyering, she is chasing after her two daughters, kayaking, hiking and reading.

Emily Murray

BARRISTER, SOLICITOR + NOTARY PUBLIC

Emily obtained her law degree from Ottawa University in 2016 and became a member of the Law Society of Ontario in 2018. She joined the firm in January, 2020. She is licensed to practise in Ontario only. Emily enjoys connecting with clients to understand and meet their needs. The law can be daunting so she works hard to minimize that burden. In her spare time she enjoys running, reading and watching Jeopardy.

Teresa DuBois

BARRISTER, SOLICITOR + NOTARY PUBLIC

Teresa was raised in Western Canada and came east to attend the University of Ottawa, obtaining a B.A. in 2005 and a LL.B. in 2009. She has been a member of the Ontario Law Society since 2010. She came to Swarbrick Law after working for 15 years in a general practice firm because she wanted to focus on family law. Her prior varied experience is helpful, as family law often touches on other areas of law. While Teresa knows her way around a courtroom (she articled at the Superior Court of Justice and is a Small Claims Court judge), she prefers to help separating clients find peace and security as quickly and inexpensively as possible, which usually means negotiating, using mediation or following a Collaborative Family Law approach. She is a panel lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and takes cases involving child protection issues, adoption and guardianship. Teresa is involved in the community as a volunteer for Lanark Community Justice, a member of 100 Women Who Care (Lanark) and Treasurer of the County of Lanark Law Association. She has two growing lads and, when not in the office, enjoys reading and spending time in nature. Teresa peut exercer le droit dans les deux langues officielles et serait heureuse de vous aider dans la langue de votre choix.
